"Just Fiddlin' Around"

What can I say that I haven't already said about the spectacular sunrises here..right outside our window...
....Every time I lie in bed thinking, "Oh, I don't need another sunrise picture", I rethink it and jump out of bed in nightshirt and slippers to get shots like this....
I fixed us a great English Muffin sandwich, toasted with Canadian Bacon and egg...and it was delicious!! We took our walk around the park today, and I actually wore a T-Shirt! Usually I have on a long sleeved shirt and sometimes even a flannel over that... We sat outside afterward and had another cup of coffee..what a day!! I heard the sounds of an RV pulling into the park..(you get to know that distinctive sound after awhile)...and here is what we saw pulling around our corner...
...I couldn't even get the whole thing in the picture...Any camper that has a triple axle is a huge and heavy one...plus the fact that it is being pulled by a freightliner!! Actually, he made one trip around our campground and left...Must have figured he was just toooo big to fit in anywhere..and he was probably right!!
About 11;30AM, we headed toward the Ajo Golf Course to check out the Fiddling Contest...(the 34th annual, I might add..) This golf course is like a struggling blade of grass trying to survive in the hot Sonoran Desert.  From Rt. 85, when you look over the desert and cactus, you suddenly see a group of Palm Trees in the middle of nowhere...like a desert oasis...If  you didn't know there was a golf course out here, you certainly would question how all those Palms got there...Here it is up close....
...There was RV parking behind the clubhouse for $3.00 a night ...dry camping, which, for all you RV virgins, means no hook-ups of any kind..no water, no electric and no sewer...We went inside and found out that they were on a break from 11:30AM  until  1PM...Seemed everyone was having lunch at the restaurant...and they were busily shelling out plates of food. We went back outside and found that there was a mini concert going on all around us..People who were entered in the contest were practicing their talents everywhere  outside...

...and there was a group of kids sitting just outside the entrance tuning up..
...Hey, we didn't even have to go inside for this treat!!...We did go inside though, and there was still 1/2 hour before the contest started again, so we found the lounge and had a beer. Everyone there was very friendly, the bartender was from Nebraska...seems everyone down here is FROM somewhere and ended up moving down here. The contest started again , and we realized that the venue was so very small, filled mostly with friends and family of the contestants, that we could hear what we wanted from where we were sitting. We stayed another 1/2 hour and did another walk around outside...
....Here is the Pro Shop...
.
...Here is the "fairway"...kind of....Hey ...it has to be hard to grow grass around here..They need to talk to Hickiwan Ray at our campground...he has a bumper crop of green grass around his trailer!!!

We walked out behind the restaurant and found this big grill, with a ton of Mesquite for cooking..I'll just bet they have some dandy BBQ's out here!! We did a lot of walking around and were amazed that a golf course could survive out here....I figured we had heard the best fiddlers outside just walking around....
...Here is a fiddler...Oh, wait a minute..I know this guy and he does a lot of "fiddlin around"...but cannot play one note on a fiddle... We did learn one thing we didn't know out here at the Ajo Golf Course...
...neither one of us knew that Lincoln made a pick up truck!!!

We decided to head back to Ajo about 2PM...Taking a chance , we stopped at the local bowling alley to see if we could find a beer...and ...lo and behold, we found a really great group of people in the lounge...friendly, fun, nice clean bar, great Hispanic music....and made a few new friends. After that, we headed back to the camper..It was clouding up a little and it was suppose to rain a little tonight. We have noticed on our recent trips into the desert that things are starting to green up down here....I hope we get in on some cactus flowers before we leave this area!
It is now 4PM, and time to get in the shower...We had a very interesting day...who could beat a 9 hole golf course in the middle of the desert, not to mention meeting and making new friends....Life is Good!!!! And we are blessed!!! See ya tomorrow!!!!

  1. Glad you finally saw a Lincoln Pick Up Truck. I own a Lincoln Mark LT, Pick Up Truck!. I would like to have had the pretty red one but mine is a 2006 and I got such a good deal on it only because I was silling to settle on the charcoal gray color. As much as I love my pick up truck, it isn't worth a hoot when it comes to towing a decent RV!

I want to know how you fix your pork and noodles. Are you willing to share your cooking skills with me? Yum Yum.
