Saturday morning Dennis and I woke up to a yucky drizzle outside. We were suppose to be attending our grandson Peyton’s soccer game at 10:20AM….Maybe…Maybe not. It seems every time we go to a game it is either blowing the bejesus out of us, raining and dreary, or we have to bundle up like Nanook of the North… However, those darn kids play in any weather except lightening…No concern for the old grandparents who have to sit under umbrellas and try to keep from poking someone’s eye out with it….Hey! We’re old and feeble…we have issues!!
We didn’t have to leave until 9:45AM , so I had time to go show up for coffee at my Ya Ya Mary’s house…
They have fixed an old run down house up and made it a showplace!!! She has her scarecrows up on the fence at the entrance to their drive. What a lovely, welcome feeling I get from this place….
As it turned out, the soccer game was a “go” (no, really?) so Den and I loaded up our umbrellas, our NEW camping chairs, and put on hooded sweatshirts. Then, just as all grandparents would do, we drove the 30 drizzly miles to the Kaneland High School soccer fields. Actually, it was lots of fun, and Peyton is much more confident this year than last year. He thanked us for coming, and that made everything VERY worthwhile!
I have my house all duded up for fall. As you well know by now, Autumn in my favorite season…If you didn’t know that, welcome to my blog…you must be a new reader…(ha ha). I know it’s early, but I got out my purple, orange and green Halloween lights and put them on our mantle, too. I tend to rush the season, but it’s important that I make it last as long as possible. I AM a control freak.
THIS FAIR FLAG HANGS ON THE BRICK OF OUR FRONT PORCH FOR THE DURATION OF THE SANDWICH FAIR.
By noon on Sunday, the traffic was beginning to back up past our house and in towards town…They were all in line to get into Gate 1, which is just down the street from us..Sunday afternoon it’s DEMOLITION DERBY DAY!!! Now there’s an event just made for Dementia Donna!! Backing into other cars, crashing them up, with absolutely NO guilt!!…and doing it with a crash helmet and a smile!! Maybe Den would let me take old blue next year…
I don’t think I could do much more damage than has already been done, right?? Actually, McGuyver and his truck are inseparable. When Dennis drives through town, everyone in Sandwich knows who is driving this lovely relic…he can’t get away with anything..Hey, that’s not such a bad thing!
These 3 plants, a purple, a red and a pink Impatients, each began their spot in my garden as ONE little plant about 3” tall with one flower….Somehow they managed to get hold of some black market growth hormones and overdosed on them…This is most embarrassing. How will I explain this to the rest of my flowers??
Our Sunday evening was a relaxing one by the campfire with a cocktail, and enjoying the gorgeous weather….Dennis put some baby back ribs on the grill …We have a routine….I put mustard and my special rub on them the night before, and the next day I precook for 40 min. at 250 in the oven (in foil)…Then onto the grill later that evening for about 20 minutes…slather ‘em up with Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 BBQ sauce and WALLA!!!
BACK OFF…YOU’RE DRUELING ALL OVER YOUR KEYBOARD!!!!!
see ya later!
Sounds like a good day in Sandwich, I love the ribs at the end, I'm gonna have to cook up a pizza and post the picture again just to get even. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.
ReplyDeleteOK, I could see us detour on our way back to MS driving through Sandwich for a rib. Awesome looking.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe
Great looking ribs, Donna. I liked your fireplace decorations too. I wasn't surprised to read that Halloween is your favorite season especially with your living in a cemetery background!!
ReplyDeleteWere you driving the truck when the paint came off?
ReplyDeleteThe ribs look good but if you want some good BBQ you need to come to Kansas City. Home of BBQ
I think I'd prefer the ribs without the sauce, please. :)
ReplyDeleteThe house is beautiful. I laughed out loud at the "back off, you're drooling on the keyboard" statement because thats exactly what I was doing.
ReplyDeleteWhen we meet down the road someday, you and Rod can have a BBQ cookoff. I'll make the potato salad and beans. ;)
Ribs look really yummy. I never met a rib I didn't like. :)
Have a great day!
Connie
