THE COLD FRONT COMETH….AND SO WILL THE SANDWICH FAIR….

Last night as Den and I sat by the fire, the skies were beginning to signal the coming of a cold front…FINALLY!!….It began to lightning and thunder shortly after I took these photos….

The clouds looked like cotton balls dropping through the sky…

..I noticed this beautiful rainbow “flying saucer” on our kitchen wall just before the sun disappeared..

I have a few prisms in my South kitchen windows, and last night one of them caught the rays of the sun just right…

I am obsessed with prisms and the magic they create …I have them in all of our windows except the Northern ones….The rainbows dance across our rooms as they turn…reminding me somewhat of the Northern Lights,  which I am also obsessed with…Yep, that’s me…obsessive, compulsive, aggressive, possessive…..all of the “ive” words,  I seem to fit them….especially “regressive”!!

This morning Den and I took a walk out through the fairgrounds….Next Wednesday is the first day of the DeKalb County Fair.  Things are already beginning to happen out there….The only campers allowed are the ones belonging to the “Fair People”….They start pulling in a week before and some don’t leave until a week after it’s over….They have water, electric and a dump station….

Here are a few photos we took while wandering through….

Keep in mind that the fair doesn’t start for another 5 days…and things are already getting set up…. The railroad caboose is used as an office for the fair “big wigs”…And the Fay’s Pork Chop Bar-B-Que tent has been a regular eating stop for as long as I can remember…People line up half way down the midway to wait for a chance to sink their teeth into some grilled chicken or chops!

The plaque above is in front of a flagpole….It is in memory of Don Bark, who was in charge of all of the booths , displays, food and game concessions the fair for 29 years.  That was a TON of responsibility!!…He passed away at age 65..He was also Dennie’s cousin…We really miss him, he was a great character.

This next photo is looking back toward the fairgrounds.  I was standing about 4 houses from ours and across the street.…You can see how close we are, and why we can walk out .  Every year people ask if they can park in our drive and walk out…We can handle about 5 extra vehicles, but then ….nobody can get out…I told Den we should us our big back yard and park people out there for a buck a car….Then again, maybe that is a bit tacky…100_7932

The cold front is invigorating me today…I put away our outdoor fountain, moved stuff around on the front porch, cleaned the house, and now I am getting the deck ready to move our fire pit up on it, a bit closer to the cocktails…I guess I had better keep moving before I run out of gas…..More later!!!

  1. Sounds like you're getting ready for winter! :) I seem to recall some very hot Septembers in Illinois. :)

  2. I had forgot about prisms in windows. I know we used to have some because I always loved the colorful rainbows they cast. Will have to keep my eye out & get some.

  3. Hey Donna, a buck for parking is really cheap, if you're going to go for it - charge big! At least $5 a vehicle. Just think of all the window prisms you could buy with all that extra cash!
