SORRY MCGUYVER…SMOKEY RULES HERE!!

Yesterday we had a pretty good drive to get here at Potter’s Creek, Canyon Lake TX.  We left about 7AM and while coming through the back roads from Buckhorn Creek to get on Route 20, we encountered some icy patches on some of the roads…WHOA!! We also managed to totally confuse Carelton, our Tom Tom voice.  I’m just sayin’ that he can become a royal pain in the behind when he keeps disagreeing with my directions to McGuyver!! He does NOT know when to shut up and let me navigate.

Last year we made the mistake of coming through San Marcos on I-35….on a Saturday….just before Xmas….For those who don’t know, San Marcos is  home to Premium Outlets , and the exit ramps were backed up all the way onto the interstate.. THIS WILL NOT PUT YOU IN THE XMAS SPIRIT!! This year we did it a little differently..(my idea, not Carleton’s)..We jumped off the Interstate just South of Austin and took 290 West, coming in from the North on Rt12.  Man has that place grown..It was a snarl of new subdivisions, strip malls, restaurants, schools and people..LET ME OUTA HERE!!!

We made it to Potter’s Creek about 2PM..to find this sign greeting us at the check-in office…

NO CAMPFIRES HERE ON THIS TRIP…SORRY DEN….

  And this is why…

Man oh man…is this place dry!!! I certainly wouldn’t want to be the one to light the spark that burned all this up!

..We have a nice spot up in the trees, and we got both of our satellite dishes up with nary a profanity….(Did I say WE??? I stand corrected…McGuyver did it all by himself!)

It was 32 bone chilling degrees last night, and we wore our Illinois “we are tough Midwesterners” walking gear on our walk….

I REFUSE TO ENLARGE THIS ANYMORE..AND IF YOU ARE SMART,  YOU WON’T EITHER….

OK, I have a question for the Queen of Birds, Judy…. What the Heck kind of ducks are these dudes?? The poor things are some of the “ugliest ducklings” we have ever seen, and there is a FLOCK of them here at Canyon Lake…

100_8833

ONE OF THEM IS LIMPING…SO WE HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON WITH OUR CONGRESS…WE HAVE A “ LAME DUCK” HERE, TOO.  WE ALSO HAVE A LAME BUCK…ONE OF THE DEER IS GIMPING AROUND.  EITHER HE IS TRYING THE SYMPATHY ACT OR THEY HAD A BATTLE OVER THE CORN THAT EVERYONE FEEDS THE DEER, AND HE LOST……HELP ME JUDY!!

So, we are all snuggled down in our new diggs….and the weather is suppose to warm up in the next few day…I see grilled baby back ribs in our near future…..

WE HAVE A GREAT SPOT ON THE HILL…OUT OF THE WIND, BUT STILL HAVE THE SUNSHINE….

I got a call from my brother-in-law yesterday, and my sis is no longer conscious…Her kidneys have shut down and her husband signed a DNR at the urging from her Doctor….She will soon move on to a different place and time….and be out of her pain and misery….which is all we want for her… When she passes, there will be a cremation and no funeral, according to her wishes…I thank you all for your kind words for the past 6 months..…

Tomorrow is grocery day, combined with laundry day…..Killing 2 birds with one box of Tide and the checkbook…..I will blog again Wednesday…..

CARPE DIEM!!!!!

  1. So sorry to hear about your sister, I am thankful you got to see her when she was still lucid and a whole being,I did the same with my little brother Rick and then two weeks later he was gone, and I couldn't even bring myself to go back east for the funeral. It is so much better to remember them talking and laughing and not see them in the casket. You guys are in my prayers and I hope she suffers no more. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna. PS it was Dec12th 2009 I last saw My brother and he passed away on Dec 31st just about 1 year ago.

  4. My deepest condolences on the pending loss of your sister. :( It is far better to remember her when she was whole in body and spirit...

As for your ugly ducklings, they are not a native Norht American species. My guess is they are domestic fowl that have busted out of the barnyard! The one with the limp is probably named Chester. You just have to figure out which one is Mr. Dillon! :)

    Hang in there, Chica

  5. So sorry to hear of your sister. Glad you got to spend time with Darlene before you left.
Judy says those birds aren't a Notrh, Norht, ptt..tooe, North American species. Maybe they're 'Canadian' ay? There's lots of snowbirds in TX this time o' year.
What's this Carpe Diem'? I didn't see any mention o' goin' out to eat. Is that restaurant lingo fer' 'Fish o' the Day'?

  11. Hearing about your sister is very sad, my heart goes out to you and your family.

Last year when Rod and I camped there, I sent him to the store for Tums, he used his iPhone "Around Me" app for a pharmacy and was gone for over 2 hours. When he got back all the work for Thanksgiving dinner was done. I asked him what took so long and he said his GPS sent him to a pharmacist's house way far away, not a pharmacy. LOL

We also had a great spot on the hill, so many deer there.

    Enjoy!
