44 years!! It CAN’T BE, WE’RE JUST GETTING STARTED!

Today I have been Mrs.Dennis  (MacGyver) Cave for 44 years!! Dennis and I met in May of 1969, got engaged in August that same year, and were married on November 22nd, 1969…a whirlwind romance of 6 months that had a few eyes rolling for sure!

We had a pool when our kids were little….and…what the Heck was I thinking in that outfit???”Lady of the evening?”

Mr. and Mrs. Dennis TravoltaRolling on the floor laughing….Remember the leisure suits??..and I look like a waitress at Medieval Times. In love  This was taken in New Year’s Eve, 1976..”Stayin’ Alive", eh?

Our wedding was at 1PM at the Congregational Church of Sandwich.  The minister came in from mowing grass to marry us.  Our wedding “reception” was cake and punch in the church basement.  My parents couldn’t afford a big fancy reception.

My mom made my wedding dress and the bridesmaid’s. I had been working for the local florist and he did our flowers for almost nothing. I think the most costly thing was the cake..it had a fountain in it. If my memory serves, that cake cost $65.00  but I just HAD to have it!! Check out the sideburns on MacGyver…and am I moon-eyed in love, or what???

There was absolutely NO alcohol in those glasses.  We were in the church basement, after all…no band, no DJ, no Chicken Dance…CAKE AND PUNCH, END OF STORY!

As I said , we were married at 1PM, had the reception in the basement, and Dennis and I were on “Honeymoon Road” by 3:00PM…Yep, goin’ to the Holiday Inn at Steven’s Point, Wisconsin for 3 nights..WOO HOO!!  I felt like I was flying to the moon!!

WHO ARE THESE TWO  YOUNG KIDS??

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me

Fill my heart with song and
Let me sing forever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing forever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and I adore

In other words, please be true
In other words
In other words, I love you

  7. Happy, happy anniversary. What wonderful memories. That's our time too! I can remember when most wedding receptions (at least the ones in my circles!!) were cake and punch in the church reception hall. If you wanted to get fancy, you added mints and nut cups. Wishing you many more happy years together.

  20. Well Happy Anniversary! No comment on the clothes, they were different times. We STILL have a couple kitchen chairs that are very similar to the one you're sitting on. Just won't die.

  23. WOW!..You all have said so many nice things, I don't know where to start...Thank you so much for the anniversary wishes...We are blessed and we know it...and marriage is NOT easy. For those who say it is....well, their nose is growing, right? Seems like just yesterday that MacGyver and I jumped into that 1967 Chevelle and began our lives together...It's already been one great ride and we can't wait to see what's up around that next curve!! We love you all...Maxine and MacGyver
