Trip to the “Shoe Store” for the Hiker.

This week we finally got the Hiker scheduled for some new tires…The treads were really good, but the sidewalls were deeply cracked…Soooo…we hooked ‘er up, and McGyver pulled though our backyard, turned her around and out the drive…I get so excited when we hook that thing up, I have to remember that we are only driving 5 miles to the tire shop and back, but I love having that big behemoth following us down the road…

I love looking out our truck back window and seeing the big white Hiker, tagging along behind us…Doesn’t take much to get me excited, eh?

This is the point at which I begin my “happy dance”…..

A bit of a tight spot to back into, we almost had the GMC hanging out on Rt. 34!! This place was right on the highway in Plano, IL, (where the new Superman film was filmed).

Sure looks nice, all spiffed up, doesn’t she?..I just washed and waxed her..(I only wax the front and back)..The guys at the tire shop really admired her and Den took one of the guys inside for a peek…

It only took them about an hour from start to finish…They balanced the tires for us at no extra charge..These guys were very good and reasonably priced…We got all 4 tires for under $800…and they are Firestone Transforce HT’s…(I have no idea what the Heck that means, but McGyver thinks they are darn good tires!)

I learned how to put tires on and balance them…I NEVER want to have that for a job..No worries about that…I can’t even lift the tire high enough to get it on that machine!

I really hated having to pull the Hiker back on our pad, but Den pulled her back through the yard and she is pointed OUT, ready for our trip to Thomson next Tuesday…Fingers crossedFingers crossed

I am finally getting some tomatoes from our garden….and our neighbor brought me a bouquet of some of her roses that the Asian Beetles didn’t eat…Today the air cooled down and we got some more rain…I can almost smell the season of Fall in the offing…Thanks for checking in…and get ready to jump into the truck next Tuesday…REMEMBER…THIS IS A BYOB TRIP!!

  2. Now your set, rig the conveyor up to load the Busch Light and you will be ready to go, oh yeah don't forget a little food if there is room in the fridge. Be safe out there. Sam & Donna.

  3. I totally understand... I was coming down the road yesterday and saw that Bill was heading out with our rig. Wait a minute! He forgot me! Oh, he's just pulling across the road to the dump station. Well, like you, it was exciting to see the rig moving again. Have fun on your trip next week!

  4. Know exactly how you feel about moving the 5ver. Same thing for me everytime I fire up the rig & have to take it anywhere. Love it. We put all new tires on the Motorhome a few years ago. Big $$. Nice that you will be getting away for a couple weeks shortly. That goes a long way in breaking up the long boredom of summer.

  5. The excitement never goes away! When it does, I'll be underground.

  6. At $800, you got a good deal on your tires and they're 'good shoes' too! Having good tires on a rig just gives a whole new feeling of confidence when pulling a 5'er. Sounds like you're ready to roll out right now - it's going to be fun I can tell already.
