We left Texarkana yesterday about 10:30AM…
It was pretty cold breaking it down..ice on the GMC bumper…and one huge-ass icicle hanging from the camper…hmmmm.
We dumped our tanks on our way out…Let me just say that there are two places to dump at this dump station…MacGyver pulled forward to the farthest one and I helped as I usually do..I pull the levers…Usually I stay in my “duty position”, right by the levers..This time I walked away and went to get the water going so we could spray out the black tank …Turned out that walking away was a bad idea. No sooner had I walked away, and …well..if you have ever had this happen, OR seen the movie” RV”, then you can visualize this. I certainly couldn’t post photos…Needless to say, THIS SEWER STATION WAS FULL…FULL UP, AND NOW OVER FLOWING..This is not for the weak of stomach..Dennis was yelling “Push the lever back in!!!!” and I was leaping over to do it..After hosing things down and off, using endless clean up techniques and hand sanitizer, MacGyver backed up the Hiker to the first dump sewer and we started over…JEEZ O PETE!!!
Well, now..What a start we were off to…However, our 60 mile drive was clear roads and uneventful, and we arrived just before noon at Buckhorn Creek on Jefferson Lake…
We were bound and determined to have a campfire…by God…I lasted about an hour and a half, helped along by the Rum in my cocktail…
This park is very pretty. In 2011 there was a big drought in this area, and LOTS of the big Oak trees are down, or have lost big branches.
If you look closely, you will see a very large branch hanging on the left side of the tree , down to the ground..It apparently broke off sometime recently, and I sure wouldn’t have wanted to be walking along this road when it did!
As you can see, this park sure is pretty. ( My driver isn’t too bad, either!! 
)Surprisingly, there are quite a few campers here and almost all of them are fishing…It’s gotta be real darn cold out on that lake..
The birds are plentiful
…I managed to get a picture of a Blue Jay, Cardinal, and Ladder Backed Woodpecker all playing nice together..Middle pic is a White Breasted Nuthatch (I think). And of course the Blue Heron..If I have made any faux pas on my bird identification, I’m sure Judy will correct me 
!!
So, we are all hunkered down here in the Piney Woods of East Texas…Tonight is suppose to be cold and possible sleet…This appears to be the norm for this week..Dennis and I will definitely get into the big/little town of Jefferson later this week. A visit to Auntie Skinner’s Riverboat Restaurant and Saloon is on my list ..Oh, don’t worry, I have a plan..
I believe I will carry this matchbook with me…just in case….

Y'all be glad you didn't come by here this last week, although Joyce could have used the help, feeding and watering the aminules !! As it was I had to get out there on my 4-legged walker, it worked on the ice, to break the 2" thick ice on the water troughs, for her.. I thought I was in Illinois !!! 12*-15* each night and 17*-25* daytime highs !!!
