Roadtrip to Zionsville…and MY way of stress relief

Last weekend Terrie and I made a flying road trip to Zionsville, IN for Aiden Wolff’s 5th birthday party..Dennis and Terrie’s kids couldn’t make it, so we went …just like Thelma and Louise on steroids…We got there before Chris and John got home from work, so we walked down the path through the park into the village of Zionsville, Indiana…and I do mean it is a village.

The Main St. of the village is paved with old bricks, and there are little alleys off the main drag that have cafés and shops you can go back into.

The photo on the right was the site of an old 1870 opera house where Sarah Bernhardt appeared.  If you just said “WHO?” outloud, you are probably not into the opera scene.  I , on the other hand, would love nothing better than to dress up in my feather boa and grab onto some dude in cape, top hat and cane and sit in the balcony, crying through some sad opera such as Madam ButterflyNinja. That stairway in the middle picture?? Oh, that leads up to a “Wine Bar”.  We were tempted to go, but I figured there would be more wine flowing later…and it would be freeRolling on the floor laughing!!

Of course, no visit to Zionsville would be complete without us Cavewomen doing a cocktail hour at The Stacked Pickle…

Two of the three Cavewomen enjoying a cocktail…( the missing Cave elder was busy documenting with camera in hand.) .  Those thar fried circles are some deep fried pickles..Those were fabulous!!..I could feel my feet swelling from just looking at them..!

The party was really fun…It was actually a combined birthday party for Aiden and 2 of his cousins, Addi and Beckham…There was suppose to be a  “bouncy house” delivered by 10AM for the 4PM party…This was canceled because it began raining at 8AM and rained most of the day…Small children, a bouncy house, rain and wet grass could only result in a trip to the hospital for someone.(.possibly me, who does enjoy a good bouncy house party!)

Three different cakes, three different piñatas, three different guest lists…makes for organized bedlam!!

It has been a challenging week, and that’s putting it mildly.  The elders have decided they want to move back home at the end of this month. SAY WHAT?? I guess assisted living is not their cup of tea.  Den and I have been busy finding a full time live-in care giver.  As luck would have it, Sandwich has a very nice Senior Center and their personnel were very helpful in putting us in touch with a lady who will fill that bill.  She will cook, clean, do laundry, get groceries (she has her own car), take them to Dr. appointments…Did you just hear me do a very big sigh of relief?..Well, don’t get too giddy for us.  We have to move all their stuff back to their house, clean out the other side of the garage for her car, clean out the spare bedroom, change back the phone, change back the mail, get Comcast back, buy a new bed and TV for the care giver….and we aren’t even sure this will work.  They have never  had anyone live with them, and it could be a real shocker.  They think they have no privacy at assisted living, but this might be even worse…Oh well, we are doing our best to please them.  My blood pressure is at an all-time high, and Dennis looks like he has been rode hard and put away wet…There may be some changes a’comin if this doesn’t pan out…Annoyed.

In keeping with my own special way of handling stress, I get creative here for the Halloween season…I decided to build my very own Witch…from a living room lamp…

HOW TO BUILD A WITCH

STEP 1…FIND A LAMP WITH POTENTIAL…

  5. Having dealt with elderly people (Mother & Uncle) from the late 90's until just this past April we understand your dilemma. Although my Uncle Harry was easier to work with myy Mother was a totally different story. We know how frustratingly infuriating it can be trying to deal with stubborn elderly minds. And especially when unrealistic demands are stated. Only thing I can say is that there will come a point when you will be totally free again & the that feeling of freedom will absolutely rocket you to the stars:))
