I forgot I had taken a few pictures of our planned last stop in Rocky Bayou State Park, just North of Destin Florida…We had booked in for 8 nights and stayed 2, but the park refunded us the rest…All the parks we had booked refunded in full, less a $10 cancel fee, so now we have some unplanned change rattling around in our pockets…This is good, because our tonneau cover to the GMC is about to shoot craps. McGyver found a new one online and ordered it…We are also planning to put a gas log in our wood burning fireplace soon…Ya see?? Good things from bad things..I totally believe in this theory…
I snapped these the day we left Lake Griffin and drove to Rocky Bayou…This is part of The Villages, a 55+ housing development set up around a gazillion golf courses…Looks a lot like California to me…
We encountered this Prevost 2 different times..pretty slick rig…As for the Ponce De Leon Springs..Dennis wouldn’t let me stop and get a drink of the youth elixer!!
This was our campsite at Rocky Bayou State Park…very nice and large…Only thing was that next time I would pick a spot that had gravel (and they had some). That sand was killer when it rained! We could have built a sand castle INSIDE the Hiker!!
This is a very nice park and convenient to the white sand beaches…We never saw them…NEXT TIME! Photo on right is a distant relative of mine, a Florida Loon…me being an Illinois Loon.
The wooded area was alive with lichen all over the grounds…On the right, I am loving Rocky Bayou…
Good bye Florida!! Just like the Terminator, “WE’LL BE BACK!!!!”
The morning we left (Monday), I took the above photo at 6:30AM as the we were crossing the bridge over Rocky Bayou, towing the Hiker and heading North..We drove 640 miles that day..I had to pry McGyver’s skinny arse off the GMC seats..We stopped a total of 3 times for double duties …1.fuel and 2. potty….Arrived at Fern Clyffe State Park near Goreville, IL at 4:30PM…(What a name for a town..Man, could I have fun living in that town at Halloween!!)
Thanks to all of you for your well wishes for Uncle Jr…He has been demoted from a cane to a walker on wheels with a seat… A big thank you to our daughter Terrie and hubby Tim, who live not far from Jr. and Jeanette. They stepped in and helped them until we could get home…We took him to the Dr. and he had an MRI.. He was diagnosed with a pinched nerve and a deteriorating spine and was given narcotics and muscle relaxers..He was suppose to start physical therapy today. We went up to take him, but he just wasn’t feeling up to it..Dennis and I are keeping close tabs on he and Jeanette. We are hoping to get him to physical therapy next Monday…Den and I have no regrets about coming home…We NEED to be here now, and are doing all we can to help ….Thanks again …THE BLOGESPHERE ROCKS IT!!

Thanks Connie..Uncle Jr. and Aunt Jeanette are just AMAZING people!
DeleteFamily is a huge priority! You are all blessed to have each other. Hope all is better soon.
ReplyDeleteI think we passed that Prevost a few times too. We had one parked a few sites down this week...our neighbor asked....$1.8 mil....can't imagine that!
Take care....
I cannot even imagine spending that on a stix and brix, let alone a "mobile" residence!!
DeleteYou sure have a great attitude... THAT'S your Fountain of Youth elixer!

DeleteUnlike California, I don't think Florida is about the fall into the ocean. You'll get there again some day. :)
ReplyDeleteyes. we will.
DeleteGlad to hear Uncle Jr.'s problem was a pinched nerve and nothing more serious - that's bad enough!! You and Dennis are to be commended for all you do for your Aunt and Uncle. It's also a great example for your children who will no doubt pass on the same values to your grandchildren. Well done!!
ReplyDeleteIt's all about family, Rick...and we have a great one...thanks for the comments
DeleteSorry to hear your trip was cut short but family first. Florida will wait for you next winter. Hope all is well.
ReplyDeleteDid you have any trouble finding campsites or did you have reservations ahead of time? We're thinking FL next winter...although....son in Phx may want us back here :-) Al is off playing Mr. Plumber at son's house today. Guess he learned a thing or two from his dad..lol
Ingrid...Unlike the Southwest, Florida is a must have reservations...We made them 6 months ahead of time...and we had some great places..If you decide to go there, let me know, I can point to some great spots...
ReplyDeleteGreat Pictures! We have been to Rocky Bayou but long before we ever thought about RVing. It was in 1979...
