Playing “Mrs. Doubtfire”…I DO have her weird sense of humor!

After having the Heiser grandkids here at our house over the last weekend, I moved in at their house Sunday for 3 nights, 4 days…until Ter and Tim came back from their trip to Vegas…So far, the Las Vegas PD hasn’t called for some bail money so that it  a good sign…Terrie’s kids pretty much watch themselves…I am only there to make sure that there is one adult in the house who can drive, cook, and make executive decisions..Wait a minute..I may have used the term “adult” a bit loosely.  I am probably the farthest grandparent from an adult…My role model is Mrs. Doubtfire…especially when she vacuums to the rock tune “Dude Looks Like A Lady”..I DO, however, have the REAL body suit that matches hers…

I think I climbed those steps 1000 times…..All the bedrooms are upstairs, and I had their master suite all to myself..At least I did until Bogie decided to find her way to the bedroom. Bogie is their deaf rescue dog, who thinks she makes the house payments at 185 Cobbler Court…

…..I rest my case…HEY!!! THAT IS MY CHAIR AND PILLOW ON THE RIGHT….DOWN, BOGIE!! ….NOW!!! (It’s almost impossible to discipline a deaf dog…especially when she give me the following look….Annoyed

The oldest 2 kids are in middle school and ride the bus..I have to say that these two kids are amazing…They have to walk 2 blocks to the bus stop, leaving the house at 6:40AM…They set their own alarms, get up, dressed, get their own breakfast and out the door…Actually, the first alarm to go off is Taylor’s…and that starts at 5:15AM..I know this because I can hear it too, so I roll out about 5:30.….Peyton’s goes off a little later (12 year old boys are notorious for NOT being as “high maintenance as 14 year old girls.) .Once the 5:15 buzzer starts, I think Tay hits the snooze button 3 times, and actually rises about 5:35AM…Peyton’s alarm sings for another 25 minutes, and he finally makes it up by 6AM…(Sometimes Taylor  has to roust him, but he always manages to make it)…Campbell, the youngest, rides a different bus to the elementary school..He needs to be awakened no later than 7:15AM,and this is where I felt somewhat needed..I got him up, got breakfast and we bonded over The Disney Channel until 8:03AM..This is when I walk him to the school bus stop, which is visible from their front door…WHEW!..

Once the kids were all on the bus, (Peyton’s job was to feed Bogie and take her out to potty), I was free to come back to Sandwich (a 20 minute drive). Rest assured that Bogie happily slept in every available couch and chair in the house while no one was homeWinking smile..…

At our house, I did some cleaning, some laundry, dinked around, made the kids some food and was back at the Heiser homestead by 3PM, when Taylor and Peyton got off the school bus…and Campbell got off about 4PM…How does Terrie EVER remember these schedules????

Wednesday was my last official full day of acting the “nanny” role and resuming my Granny one…Is it just me, or do the words Nanny and Granny come from the same nurturing vocabulary??

Terrie and Tim’s flight was due in Wednesday, late afternoon.. I was at the Heisers when the kids got off the school bus Wednesday.  I had made spaghetti and fried chicken for a dinner that night, knowing that Tim and Ter would be  hungry, and they could all eat together…Terrie called about 4:30PM and said they were driving home from Midway Airport and about 1 hour from home, so I left the kids in Tay’s hands and began the traffic rush hour drive back to our house..Taylor, being 14 going on 30 and a very busy neighborhood babysitter, qualifies to watch her younger siblings for the hour…I piled all my stuff into the GMC and headed home about sunset..

This is a large farm owned by the Rosenwinkle family and I drive by it on my way home..The Rosenwinkles own many farms out our way…They use to own much of the property in Chicago that O’Hare Airport is now occupying..hence the MANY farms…They aways have their silos at this particular one decorated with red and green Xmas lights this time of year…I took this photo “on the fly”while driving, which is probably NOT a good idea, but you can see the colored lights waaay at the tops ….

Terrie called me about an hour later, after they got home, telling me how much they appreciated my “nannyism”, and officially promoted me back to Grama…I had a great time with the kids, and they definitely helped me stay young while I was there….And now, I am back home, and Den and I spent today helping Uncle Jr. get some groceries..…Right now, I am done blogging…and it is very nearly cocktail hour.   I will most definitely find a glass of wine with my name on it…Martini glassRolling on the floor laughing…Thanks for checking in!!!!!

Heiser Grandkids …and a Merry Medical Update..

First of all, I want to wish our oldest daughter, Terrie, a Happy 40th Birthday!!

We are watching Taylor, Peyton and Campbell for the 5 days they are in Las Vegas celebrating….Terrorizing the strip with Terrie and Tim also are Chris and John, and Kelly and Cindy…Also along for the celebration is a cop friend of Tim and Ter’s , along with his wife..I have a feeling the friendship will be stretched to the maxEmbarrassed smile!! They left out of Midway Airport, Chicago, Saturday at 6AM..Chris and John hopped a flight out of Indy about an hour later, and they all hooked up at Harrah’s about 11AM…This is a MAJOR Cave-a-palooza , meant ONLY for the young people…McGyver and I are “minding the store”, the kids….. and the dog…Chris and John left their 2 boys (the Wolff Cubs) with members of John’s family, who live in the Zionsville area…

Would you allow this group in your casino????

Above is my coffee cup from the Wolff boys…so even though they aren’t here, I can still enjoy their presence…I LOVE Snapfish!!
We have been having a great time here with the Heiser kids…I made a couple big breakfasts ( 2 days in a row of bacon, sausage, eggs, pancakes and French Toast..WHEW!)….

On the right is Bogie, their deaf rescue dog…Previously, someone had beaten her and she is deaf as a result..She is part Pit Bull and Part???? and she is the sweetest, kindest creature ever…Only one thing to remember…Don’t sneak up on her…make heavy footsteps if she is sleeping…Ya gotta remember that she cannot hear you coming and is easily startled..So much for being a watchdog..Someone could break in and steal everything from the house downstairs, if she was sleeping in her dog bed upstairs…Surprised smile!

When the Heiser kids are here, we enjoy Jessica’s company also…She is the 12 year old daughter of our neighbors, and is just like one of our own grandkids…You can easily spot Jessica, being the only one NOT blonde.
Kids
Taylor had Jessie take this with Tay’s cell phone…This is our wreath hung on the Hiker tongue…Pretty neat, eh??

The  last time we were at Uncle Jr.’s , Aunt Jeanette gave us this table clothe…She said that Den’s Mom had given it to them for a wedding gift over 50 years ago…It now graces our little Xmas tree…I love that it is something that Grandma Kate (Den’s Mom) AND Jr.and Jeanette had a part in..and it will be kept in the famly.

I took these last Friday, 17 days post surgery…

McGyver took these yesterday..I actually had on lipstick..The scar is fading daily, and now I have to put Aquaphor on it 3 times a day…AND…I can lightly cover it with make-up….But in these photos, I obviously didn’t have make up on, and I still think it looked pretty darn good…and can only get better…I’m trying NOT to make this totally a Merry Medical Christmas blog, but I figure a few updates may help someone else see that “miracles DO happen,” and “all things are possible”…
This afternoon, I am taking the Heiser kids and Bogie back home and spending Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights at their house..My duties are pretty simple…feed them, make sure they do homework and get to bed by 9:30PM and on the school bus in the mornings…During the day,  I am free to return to Sandwich .. until the school bus drops them off at home again about 3-3:30PM…I will take some pics and hopefully blog again about my experiences at the Heiser homestead…You know darn well something unusual will happen…Murphy’s Law…

I’M GETTING ANTSY TO SEE IF WE CAN HEAD SOUTH!!

I have been adding a few more Christmas “touches” around the house….

I love my Norman Rockwell Santa…..           “the stockings were hung by the chimney with care”..

I had to decorate the Hiker too…We can sit outside on our deck and enjoy this wreath..

As you may notice, the grass is a lovely green and the cement under the Hiker is damp….Today was 70 degrees and so was  yesterday…It certainly doesn’t seem like December here!!!

My pansies out front are in full bloom….I sure hope they have their long underwear at the ready…By the end of this week we are in for a drastic change…

Yesterday we went to Linda Hann’s house again to watch the Chicago Bears/Seattle Seahawks on TV…We call this Don’s Old Tyme Inn West….Linda has the bar/garage very festive for the holidays…..

There is no question who our son, Kelly, is a fan of…On the right, Tom and Leanne’s old Lab, Maggie Mae, is totally bored by the football game…(Notice they brought her rugs and blankies with so she could be comfy..Wish I had brought mine, I’d be right down there with her!)

Of course, we had to begin another beer can pyramid…..It’s becoming a ritual on game day..

Above left, the beginning of 1st quarter , with just a few….On the right, Dennis adds the last can after the darn Bears LOST it in overtime!!GRRRRR! The last time we let Den go near the pyramid, he made it fall.  This time, it did waver, but managed to stay up..Why is that so important?..I have NO idea.

McGyver and I are planning/hoping to be able to take our trip South, and I just HAD to start getting the Hiker loaded up with some stuff..We aren’t using our shorts and T-shirts much right now (not that we couldn’t!), so I busied myself loading a few things…Just going in and out of it made me feel all “warm and fuzzy”…LOVE THAT HIKER!

This Winter,we are traveling without Hughes net  dish to set up..Now that we have our Verizon Wireless, we are sooo looking forward to a much easier set up, AND less equipment in the “basement” of the Hiker…Those fuzzy green things in the pic on the right are my new slippers…I can hardly wait to don my ensemble and trot out the Hiker door in those babies..zzzzzzzz( not sure Florida is ready for the Caves, but we are CERTAINLY ready for Florida!!)  We are hoping to leave shortly after my last Doc appt., which will be sometime around Dec. 27th or 28th…If the stars are all aligned correctly, the “family members” are all nestled in for the Winter, and we don’t get a blizzard in the days following that, we could be on our way by the weekend after Christmas…Fingers crossedFingers crossedDisappointed smile!!!! (Key word…yep, you guessed it..COULD!) Me?..I am asking for all the good Karma I can get..I composed my letter to send to  Santa, telling him what a good girl I have been, and how much I deserve a trip South…OK…maybe I’m stretching the “good girl” idea just a bit…I probably should have said I’ve been a “tolerable ol’ broad”, right????Winking smile
